Who is William Lounsbury ?

William aka Bill

I am a career firefighter whose career started with the Ridgefield Connecticut Fire Department in 1986. The opportunity to transition to neighboring city of Danbury CT, occurred in 1991. Prior to being promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 2003 one of the many additional responsibility projects I undertook was creating a city wide map index. I lead a project that involved many hours of work to confirm street locations as derived from an in house database that was used in the City of Danbury 911 center. The project also involved the cross integration of AutoCad files that mapped the city streets and hydrant system. The two technologies were merged and a set of hard copy map books became part of the city wide response system that was the precursor to our modern day CAD system.

In October 2012 I was promoted to the rank of Captain. In my first two weeks as Captain, I was tasked with staffing logistics for Hurricane Sandy. The DFD employed a myriad of archaic tools for staffing that included pencil and paper for payroll reporting, excel spreadsheets for roster assignments and a DOS based "green screen" for our RMS. (Many Municipalities are still enjoying this sort of system)

In November 2012, the Chief asked me, the junior Captain, to pair with the senior Captain, on the new Telestaff project. The Chief was aware of my computer abilities and thought I would be well suited to the success of the project.

The multi decade, archaic records system was retired in June 2013, when Telestaff version 2.92 went live for Danbury Fire Department. Wearing dual hats as a line Captain and Telestaff "collegiate", I attended a 40 hour, one on one, advanced Telestaff training session at the Irvine, CA office. I also continued to build on my AS in Fire Science degree, continuing education as a front line fire officer, completing Fire Instructor II and Fire Officer II certifications.

My promotion to Deputy Fire Chief occurred in June of 2018. My new position changed my responsibility to that of Shift Commander for one of four, DFD platoons, overseeing 24 Career Firefighters and Officers, staffing five engines, one ladder, one heavy rescue and one tactical support unit. February of 2021 adorned me with the additional title of Special Operations Chief, overseeing the specialty companies of ARFF, Technical Rescue, HazMat and the newly forming Marine Division.
